Technical Systems Analyst & Project Manager — Legacy Modernisation

PMLM

London

About the job

Location: London | Employment type: Contract(6months & Outside IR35) | Experience level: 6–8+ years

We are seeking a versatile Technical Systems Analyst & Project Manager to lead the discovery, analysis and delivery of an enterprise legacy modernisation programme. This is a hybrid role: you will lead the deep technical discovery and documentation of the current legacy estate, and also own delivery planning, stakeholder coordination and milestone execution. You will bridge technical teams, enterprise architects and business leadership — managing scope, tracking risk, and turning technical insight into actionable, on-schedule migration and decommissioning roadmaps.

Legacy discovery & technical analysis

- Analyse, reverse-engineer and document legacy applications and their end-to-end functionality.
- Partner with business and engineering stakeholders to uncover application purpose, business processes and system dependencies.
- Capture technical specifications: system architecture, core technologies, interface specifications, data flows and integrations.
- Map upstream/downstream dependencies, data lineage and external integration points across the application landscape.
- Inspect legacy codebases, database schemas, interfaces and existing documentation to extract functional and architectural detail.
- Produce detailed “as-is” documentation and system health assessments to support re-platforming, replacement and decommissioning decisions.
- Identify operational risks, functional redundancies, technical debt and rationalisation opportunities.

Project management & delivery governance

- Define and manage discovery sprint plans, project schedules and milestone tracking across modernisation workstreams.
- Own delivery scope, ensuring analysis activity directly supports programme milestones and migration roadmaps.
- Maintain RAID logs; proactively track, mitigate and escalate delivery roadblocks, cross-team dependencies and technical risk.
- Facilitate steering meetings and standups, and provide executive-ready status reports and dashboards to programme leadership.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams — architects, developers, legacy SMEs and third-party vendors — to keep discovery and delivery on track.

Required experience & qualifications

- 6–8+ years combined experience in Technical/Systems Analysis and IT Project Management within enterprise environments.
- Proven track record within complex legacy application estates, legacy-to-cloud migrations or application rationalisation programmes.
- Strong working knowledge of legacy technologies, including Mainframe, VB/VBA, MS Access, advanced Excel/macros or similar.
- Demonstrated experience producing application inventories, technical health assessments, integration blueprints and detailed “as-is” documentation.
- Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum and Waterfall methodologies, and fluency in delivery tools (Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet).
- Exceptional communication, facilitation and negotiation skills, with a track record of driving cross-functional alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications & certifications

- Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, PMI-ACP, CSM or PSM).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and cloud migration frameworks.
- Familiarity with architectural modelling frameworks (UML, BPMN, ArchiMate).
